THE HISTORY OF Bamboo Charcoal
The Bamboo Charcoal journey began in Asia, some 600 years ago. Word had spread between small agricultural villages of a discovery that would change the way these communities used Bamboo forever. The charcoal method explored by these farmers was a revelation, by heating pieces of bamboo to high temperatures, a unique charcoal would be produced that had almost magical like uses.
While this bamboo charcoal would initially be used for cooking, farmers across China soon discovered its impressive absorbent properties and began using it as a method to dry tea leaves. Before long communities in Japan and other Asian countries began to create their own bamboo charcoal.
Today Bamboo Charcoal is less of a secret, but its amazing powers are just as important as they were many generations ago.
CREATING BAMBOO CHARCOAL
Over the centuries, the technique for creating Bamboo Charcoal has remarkably remained mostly the same. Once the bamboo is harvested, it is steamed, pulverized and heated to extremely high temperatures, giving it a wider surface area. As little as one tiny gram of bamboo charcoal has as much as 1000m2 of absorbent surface area. This results in a highly effective porous structure, the key to becoming a natural air freshener.
